Birch bark is an amazing material, canoes are still built of it today using techniques that have been handed down over hundreds, if not thousands, of years.The key to it's sustainability as a material rests in the fact that birch grows quickly and has a relatively short life span.
The Birch Bark Armoire turned out to be a great exercise in branding, as well as an important change in furniture vocabulary. I think that it is easy to get intrenched in current stylistic trends with-in furniture design . . . for me it is refreshing to revisit pieces such as the armoire which tend to meet the needs of a simpler existence. Past the point of mere aesthetics, and visual interest, they provide an alternative way to organize a persons life.
